Best Drill Stops?
I normally use guided surgery. I have an implant planned for #31. There is not enough vertical height to allow for a guide. I have looked at the Salvin Universal Drill Stop Kit for this case. Does anyone have a good drill stop kit for use with freehand dental implant placement?
Thanks.

Dentis had a depth limiting drill kit
Blue sky bio kit can be used as well.
Also you can buy adjustable collar from nobelbiocare that goes on the drill and you tighten it on the side.
Also, intralock has a pilot drill set that is depth limiting and biohorizon has a long set of pilot drills that are depth limiting for pilot guides. Hope this helps. There is one other company from California that makes spoons if you need them let me know. Best of luck.

If I can give you a trick. The plug of an anesthetic carpule can be inserted on the implant drill to help as implant spacer 2 mm with a natural tooth and 3 mm between 2 implants ( it’s diameter is 4 mm) and depth stopper as well

Yes, these situations can be quite tricky, you have outlined some of the problems well already. Vision of the operating region can be be difficult, because it is not easy to see around behind the first molar. Making the incision and raising a clean flap can be difficult. It’s often useful to make the sort of approach used for removing wisdom teeth, i.e. going directly distal back for the length of the tooth and then traveling a little up the ramus. The produces an “envelope flap” which can be retracted back to give better visibility. Of course, placing a good retractor helps.
There is an inherent tendency to “drift distally” with the starting point for the drill and this can get increasingly more distal as larger drills are used, so that the final channel is not centered where you would like it to be. It can be a good idea to place a “starting dimple” with a round bur where you want the Pilot Channel to start. This will help stabilize the Pilot Drill in the right position. Once this has been taken to depth use a Depth Gauge to check the location, orientation and depth of the initial Pilot Drill channel. It’s useful to take a radiograph with the depth gauge in place.
At this early stage, if the channel position needs to be modified, it is relatively easy to “Transport” or “Angle”the initial channel to the desired central location with drills that are side cutting. That is not possible with the larger drills.
With depth issues when using a “Drill Stop” there may be a peak of bone on the distal of the first molar which prevents the drill from going to the desired depth, so it may be necessary to go a little deeper than your initial channel, by1-2mm. Many drill stop systems have 2mm increments which should make this easy enough. The desire with most implant systems these days is to get the rough surface of the implant below the bone line to reduce the potential for the onset of later Peri-Implantitis. This allows for some slight bone remodeling in healing, it also allows for Emergence Profile development with the abutment and restoration.
I hope these “pointers” are of some help. Best wishes.

Paltop stoppers are by far the best i have used, still use the system today. The best part is that they stop rotating as soon as you touch anything so they will not hurt the soft tissue at all.
Best of luck
