Dentin Graft: Healing After 6 Weeks
Case from Dr. Ziv Simon, of Surgical Master. This case shows Dentin graft healing after 6 weeks (Editor’s Note: Dentin graft uses a patient™s crushed tooth fragments and processes them into bone graft particulate). The crown of this tooth was bonded to the adjacent teeth. Graft represents amount obtained from the root alone. What are your thoughts on Dentin Grafts?
> Editor’s Note:
Last year, we did a post about one particular system, BonMaker for creating Dentin graft. The idea behind the BonMaker, and other similar systems, is to manufacture bone graft material specific to the patient by using the patient’s own extracted teeth. Learn More

Looks good on images...the proof is what it looks like clinically when you place the fixtures

I agree completely DrT. KometaBio has cases on its website where cases were fully documented pre and post implant placement in sites where dentin graft has been used. The findings are consistent.

To add some additional information in regards to the topic presented, the protocol that was used in this specific case is the protocol using the Smart Dentin Grinder by KometaBio Inc. The protocol recycles the extracted tooth into autogenous, high quality graft within 15 minutes from time of extraction. KometaBio's studies and cases documented by users of the protocol have shown that healing is accelerated, in many cases at twice the speed (7-8 weeks in Mandible and 3 months in Maxilla). This is due to the autogenous nature of the graft, acceptance by the body as its own, ankylosis and attraction of progenitor cells at the site. For full disclosure, I represent KometaBio Inc.

This type of graft is showing promise in retaining the ridge's dimensions. I'm not using it for bone quality (although it's excellent). More for ridge retention, quicker entry with an implant and patient acceptance is great.

I wish I could post the pictures here that I wanted. I places a dentin graft in #14 with only 3 mm of bone present at the time of surgery. I did a crestal sinus lift and now have 12 mm of bone into which I placed an implant after 6 months of healing. I also gained 4.5 mm of attachment on the mesial of 15 that will probably save the tooth. Patients love the idea and I am finding that the have almost no pain or swelling. I love this option.
