Feedback on Biohorizons tapered internal plus for platform switching?
I currently use BioHorizons implants, but am I am considering changing to the BioHorizon Tapered Internal Plus implant with laser-lok, due to it’s design for platform switching. Has anyone had any experience or feedback on this system? Any other recommendations for systems with platform switching? Thank you!

use Implant Direct's conical hex implant, Interactive. Platform switched, compatible with Nobel Active connection. $195 with a 3mm healing collar and cover screw. Can't go wrong.

I use Paltop PCA, israeli made , astra compatible and by far the cleanest surface implant right now. actaully is really good and been using it since 2011, very successfully I might add. that is my recomendation. (I have no interests or economic conections to this company what so ever)

do you have a complex esthetic case?

I believe that platform switching/medialised abutment interface is a great concept but really not necessary when proper principals are followed. The conical connections and the platform plus (Zimmer which is my preferred product) achieve great results. I have experienced a lot of problems with Biohorizon both from the very short time I tried using them and the multiple complications I get referred as they are common in this area. If I were shopping and didn’t have the ties that I do with Zimmer I would look no further than Blue Sky Bio as I have never seen a bad product from them

It is mainly used when the Dr. needs more bone coverage but does not have space for a large crown. It is a little more expensive than the plain old tapered internal implant which I use exclusively as a removable prosth dentist . If you are very experienced with custom abutments it would be the next logical step up.

Tim c Carter. Can you explain to me why you believe that Zimmer is a better product than Implant Direct? I'm sure you must know where Zimmer came from right?

I know the history. Somewhere along the way ID started producing prosthetics without the same precision. It is apparent when an ID component is placed on either an ID or a Zimmer fixture. Over the past 10 years I have seen a lot of complications with ID components that I have not seen with Zimmer. That is unless the Zimmer has been restored with ID. It is just what I have observed. Similarly I have seen a lot of complications with Bio Horizon so what works best for me is Zimmer TSV restored with genuine Zimmer parts. This evolution for me has happens after using Nobel Biocare, 3i, Straumann, ID, Bio Horizon, and Zimmer. Preference for me just like my Ram truck after driving a Ford for years!!

respect. I don't think there is a right and a wrong here. I'm a Bio-horizons guy but I get your point. :) you'll be back to the F-150 in 2 years LOL

That's odd. Zimmer used to manufacturer in Implant Directs facility. Implant Direct mills to tolerances that are smaller than a human hair. Perception is not always reality with higher priced products. Anyways, good luck!
By the way, the friction fit abutment that Zimmer still touts to this day as a selling feature, was patented and created by dr niznick our former president. We dont use it anymore because we mill with such precision.

I have not used nor looked into implant direct for some time, but when I had, I noticed that the manufacturing as a "knock off" design implant was fine but that the surfaces on many was an RBM. If we are to believe that surface technology, which leads to many increased costs of the major brand implants, is really important, then are we really getting what we think we are getting as to implant quality. Just a thought that doctors should know what they are getting for the reduced price. Any comments as to ID increasing surface quality.
Sincerely

When Zimmer vacated our building in 2004 when the lease expired and consolidated manufacturing in SD, ID hired 90 of their employees and started ID. All the manufacturing expertise remained with Implant Direct and Zimmer had to outsource its production to keep up with sales. Their quality was hurt while ID’s continues based on the expertise of many of the same people still at ID.

Implant Direct uses soluble blast media (SBM). We have used it for over 25 yrs and Zimmer uses the same treatment as does biohorizons. So I'm not sure what you mean.

I also use the Biohorizons implant system. The Tapered Internal Plus implants with the platform switch and Laser-Lok have worked very well for me. Failure rate to my knowledge over the last 6-7 years is at or just under under 2%. The level of support, and the standards the company lives by have value to me. No argument that there are several if not many other options available that have proven success as well.

Have you found the "lifetime warranty" to be more than marketing? Especially with Biohorizons?
