ABSTRACT: Total rehabilitation of the edentulous patient with the All-on-4 concept
Author: PAULO CARVALHO, DDS, Malo Clinic, Lisbon, Portugal
A fixed rehabilitation is the best treatment option for the edentulous patient. With continuous clinical and scientific research it has become possible to treat every edentulous case with high functional and aesthetic fixed solutions, increasing the quality of life of these patients. The Malo Clinic protocol for totally edentulous rehabilitation strives for the achievement of this important goal.
The surgical protocol follows the All-on-4 concept which is an innovative concept developed in the early 90’s at the Malo Clinic for the immediate rehabilitation of all fully edentulous jaws. It is a patient-adaptable surgical procedure that allows a simple and immediate rehabilitation with a 12-teeth bridge fixed on 4 implants, with minimum cantilever, 2-3 hours after surgery. Using the premaxilla and interforamina bone this concept allows the treatment of a higher number of patients, avoiding the need of complex and debilitating bone grafting procedures or any kind of maxilla/mandible reconstruction.
Combining this concept with computer guided surgery – NobelGuideTM concept- enables any surgeon to perform precise implant rehabilitation with maximum comfort for the patient and with the delivery of prosthesis at the time of the surgery.
The “osteotome†capacity of the NobelSpeedyTM Groovy implant makes this implant the ideal for immediate function, due to the following characteristics: 1. higher primary anchorage; 2. maximum crest expansion related to the shape of the apex.
The final prosthodontic work is of extreme importance. Malo Clinic prosthetic protocol- MaloClinic Bridge -was developed to give a high aesthetic, precise and consistent result, following a simple clinical and technical procedure. The Malo Ceramic Bridge represents the most technologically and aesthetically advanced form of fixed prosthesis for the fully edentulous patient. This prosthesis is the epitome of biomedical engineering combined with Procera® CAD\CAM technology to provide patients with precision implant supported functional replication of the natural dentition.
This and many other important topics will be discussed further at the ICOI 2008 Winter Symposium, February 7-9, 2008 at the Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada.
