KOS Implants: Any Feedback?

Dr. SS, a general dentist asks:

I would like to know if anyone is using KOS Implants [IHDE Dental]? These are single-piece, tapered compression implants that are used with immediate loading. Restorations are cemented on to the implants. I would like to know if any user has any feedback on KOS implants placed over two or three years ago. Were there any complications? What are your recommendations for using this implant system? thanks.

I have been using these implants for little more than a year & I have not faced any problems. In combination with other systems of Dr.Ihde Dental, BCS and BOI implants, I am able to meet all requirements @ our centre w.r.t. dental implants.

i have been using it for over 2 years, based on compression loading,it has limited applications, good for overdentures, gud in d2 or d3 in category a or b bone....crowns and fpds....decision is based on meticulous diagnosis..

K O S ,that we have been using are single piece, bendable& non bendable, overdenture, not happy with over denture prosthetic attachments as nylon caps need frequent change, support in india is also very poor

I`ve been using KOS for more than 6 years now. It`s the descendant of Bauer KOmpressionSchraube (Bauer compression screw-the original made some 30 years ago). Single piece implant- compression screw, actually. It consists of 3 types KOS (thick collar, non-bendable), KOS B (thin collar- can be bent once for parallelism), KOS A (angulated-15 or 25 degrees). If you bury the implantbeneath the bone level, so that only the polished collar is prominent through the mucosa- NO BONE RESORPTION. Simple an affordable system (cost effective). I started with it for the big cases with circular bridges - where there is enough bone. Patients love it, because there are no incisions and no sutures. In multiple cases-atleast 2-3 splinted implants (you must always do immediate loading)-success rate is 95-98 %. When I started using it for singles- dropped below 85% (naturally), so i quit. Now I use it mostly as a "backup" system, if a patient can not afford a two-unit system. Bottom line- predictable system for big cases with abundance of bone (mostly for the maxilla). Has a learning curve though (broke 2-3 KOS B, during insertion phase, before I learned. Don`t ask how I removed and replaced them). Good luck, Dr Dimitrov

I have used the KOS implants for three years for dificult cases such complete edentulous maxilla and partial edentulous maxilla and mandible. I’ve used it for frontal teeth, too. I haven’t got any problems until now, the pts are happy. It’s important to have a good trained dental technician. I’ve tried to work with different labs but I’m pleased just with one who has been trained in Germany by the promoters.

All kos implants have a common head size.hence in thicker diameter implants i.e. above 4mm,the abutment is too thin.so the emergence profile of crown is bad.
