Can I get a bone graft and implant if I’m wearing braces?
I have a long history of periodontal disease and have finally gotten it under control. I’ve had osseous surgery on upper left and right , and bottom left and right. My gums are now healthy and measure with probing at 3’s. Well my bottom incisors # 23 and #24 are expected to be extracted. Implants are said to be needed. After consultation with my orthrodontist, I was told that once I get the braces on, my teeth will tighten and then #23 and #24 will be pulled. Once pulled and braces close space, they are saying I will only need 1 (one) implant. My question is: can an implant be put in with braces and can a bone graft be done with braces on ?

well despite we don't have any x-ray nor photograph, I think the treatement plan is correct; in my opinion, and experience, to a better bone preservation and better esthetic result I prefer to mesialize teeth, when possible, and position an implant in the distal space; besides it seemes a better menagement of the bone graft if forces are applied within two/three months since surgery.
Best wishes, Dario

The answer to your questions is yes, you can bone graft and place an implant while you are in braces.
Whether it can be done or should be done in your case is a different question.
In most cases you want the teeth moved to the final position with orthodontics first, and then you do any bone grafting and implants.
Since the implant does not move, it is not wise to place it while the teeth around it are still being moved to avoid the risk of the implant ending up in the wrong position from the adjacent teeth.
Being patient and doing things at the right time usually gives you the best results.
Good Luck!
