All-on-four implants only for the upper denture?

I am considering have the all-on-four implant procedure done for my upper denture only. I would leave the lower denture as is, never placing implants on the lower denture. Is this advisable or not?

Unless the upper denture is causing gagging, your resources would be be better utilized by lower implants and subsequent restoration. The upper denture generally is much easier to achieve good retention and stability. The lower....more like "socks on a rooster!" Spend the money on the lower!

I agree with Dr Walter Mick. Lower dentures have almost no retention and tend to float around the mouth, while top dentures can sit pretty tight. Once you have an "all on four" prosthesis in the top you will soon realize how loose and uncomfortable the lower is. Another problem you will face is that the top denture will bite "harder" than the lower and cause more bone breakdown in the lower jaw. The only reason I can think of why you will only go for the uppers are that you still have several lower teeth of your own, if not, rather go for the lowers first. Good luck Deks
