Getting an abutment from a different dentist?
Hi,
I got an implant 4 months ago from a local dentist. I haven’t heard any follow up calls from my dentist so I called to the office to see if it is time to get an abutment. However, I haven’t been able to reach the doctor for 3 weeks. At this moment, I feel I should seek help from another dentist. Can I get an abutment from a different dentist that put in the implant? I don’t have any record about my implant since I cannot reach my dentist. What should I do?

Assuming that the implant that was placed is a common name-brand implant, any dentist with implant experience should be able to get an abutment post for it. Since there are a lot of implant systems out there, if it is an off brand, identification of the implant may be difficult. Keep trying to get in touch with the dentist who placed the implant to get this information.

HELLO
actually there are so many different types of implants that are matched only to other components of the same type of fixture and that's why a dentist needs the record to continue the treatment.and also talking about one implant type there are other aspects that would matter when choosing the abutment for crown and that's what your dentist knows the best.as it's been only 5 months not being called from your doctor, maybe you would better wait, call again or search the internet to find or connect him to get him the work done or get necessary information about your fixture to pass to another dentist.
at the end don't worry because sometimes there are other ways to distinguish the type of an implant. especially when the fixture and the abutment are one piece as is more used in anterior part of upper jaw ,there are alternatives to fix a crown.
good luck

We are all in agreement that the best way for you to get the information you need is from the office that placed the implant. Once you identify the implant, any dentist that restores implants will be able to continue the work and get you a crown on that implant.
Keep trying to contact the office unless you have made a decision already to change dentists.
Sometimes the other dental office can call your dentist and obtain the information for you.
Good luck!
