Healing Abutments: Common to Come Out?

Last Updated: Nov 25, 2014

Is it common for healing abutments to come out? And if they do come out what is the risk for infection? At what point should you remove an implant?

No, it is not common to see healing abutments fall out, but the fact that a healing abutment loosens and falls out does not mean that the implant is at risk of getting infected. When this happens the gum tissue grows quickly over the implant and it may have to be removed in order to replace the abutment again. The answer to your second question: at what point should you remove an implant? is when the dentist thinks that it has no chance of success, and there could be many reasons. Good luck!
