Lower Ridge Augmentation: How Does this Work?

If I have a lower ridge augmentation to get 2 dental implants placed, will the dentist fill in the entire ridge where the pre molar area is, or just the area where he will place the two implants? I have a thin ridge in that area. Thanks

It depends on the bone volume at the sites the implants are being placed. A CBCT is a very useful tool in determining how much bone graft material is needed. Often times the 'thin' bone can be reduced in the front part of the lower jaw and implants placed without a bone graft. Atrophic (very small) lower jaws are difficult to bone graft due to limited space under the gums and a compromised blood supply to this area.Ken Templeton DDS
