Do I need to replace an upper molar with an implant if it’s not making contact with a lower tooth?
Last Updated: Oct 21, 2013
I’m 32 years old. I lost my #15 tooth 4 years ago. But I didn’t really need it because the way my teeth are aligned on that side is my top 1st molar is only touching my bottom 2nd molar. So if I still had #15, it would be occluding with the wisdom tooth that needs to be pulled because its partially impacted. So really in the end if I still had #15 it would not be making contact with anything. So I’m thinking an implant to replace the tooth would be worthless.
My concern though is that with that tooth missing I would have bone loss that will cause problems later down the road. Do I need orthodontic treatment to push #18 back and then replace #15 with an implant? Or is that expense not worth it meaning I should just leave it? If I left it alone, will the bone loss cause problems #14?
Thanks.
