Preserve residual alveolar ridge with implant?
To what extent can a residual alveolar ridge can be preserved by an implant? Certain studies suggest that an implant can reserve alveolar ridge from resorption. A recent review of literature was conducted to investigate this possibility based on previous clinical investigations.
The conclusion:
Many articles reported bone preservation with implant-assisted restorations, and the rest denoted noticeable bone apposition. According to the published clinical studies, the behavior of bone remodeling around implant predicts a sort of residual alveolar bone preservation.
What do you make of this study and what has been your experience clinically? Have you experienced the increasing bone density in similar cases, as reported by some clinical studies?
