Removing abutment screw from Branemark?
I have a new patient who presented with an implant fixture, placed in this first premolar area in 2000. I’m not sure what implant this is, but it looks like a Branemark. If it is Branemark, can I use their Unigrip driver to remove the abutment screw? I am in Asia, so unlikely to get impression coping. Any other tips for this case?

Hi. This looks like a Branemark MKIII to me as well. In principle you can use their unigrip driver as well to unscrew it. What you can also do is send Nobel Biocare an email if it doesn't unscrew. They have rescue instruments as well.

This looks like a Branemark or Sterioss to me. I have rescued a few of these. Nobelpharma has all the components; impression copings, analogs, screws. They make a nice UCLA wax-to abutment that fits perfectly. You can easily restore these. The screw is a hex head. Call their technical support and they will walk you through and get you everything you need.

Don't forget that Branemark wasn't always Unigrip
It may be a hex screw. If so, a Unigrip driver will feel ok until you put a bit of load on it, then it will slip and damage the head of the screw.

IF you arre in ASIA, contact NeoBiotech at Seoul, Korea. They have a SUPER DUPER kit of SCREW REMOVAL. Applies to all kinds of implants; any brand or trademark. Extremely practical and useful.

The kit from Neobiotech is a good one.
If the screw is loose, you can remove it relatively easy with simple instruments and magnification.
I have uploaded a video on youtube that shows the procedure in detail.

I recommend the Mr Curette (MCT) removal kit for removing fractured screws or failed implants. It’s the same principle as the other kit (actually all the new removal kits are based on the same reverse drill technique developed by Niznick in the 90’s), but the MCT removal kit is simpler to use and is 1/3 of the price.

I have implants from about 20 years ago. Three of the five have broken screws that fasten into the implant. Neither my periodontist or the dental office that manufactured the screwed in dental plate seem to be able to find me replacement parts. The broken screws have been removed and I need replacements. Can you provide any help?
Thanks
