Neoss Dental Implants: Discussion
This week, we’re going to open the thread to a discussion of the Neoss Dental Implant System.
Neoss is a relatively simple implant system from the United Kingdom. It has implant fixtures in diameters 3.25mm, 3.5mm, 4.0mm, 4.5mm, 5.0mm and 5.5mm. The system utilizes two basic implants – the Bimodal and the Proactive. The Proactive is the newer version and its surface is blasted, etched and chemically treated. The prosthetic system uses an internal trilobe connection.
One of the unique properties of the implant fixture design, that we would like to point out, is that all of the implant sizes – except for the 3.25mm – share the same size platform which is 4.1mm in diameter. The apical third of the implant fixture is thread-cutting and self-tapping. Neoss also has a unique bone mill and trephine kit for removal of bone that has grown over the implant fixture in a two-stage surgical protocol.
With regards to the company’s newer Proactive Implant, what we found interesting was the description of the implant as a: Hydrophilic implant. According to Neoss:
“Rapid wetting of an implant surface enhances protein aggregation and can accelerate fibrin network formation. Uniquely, the ProActive surface utilises electrowetting to eliminate surface tension maximising blood and tissue fluid penetration into the surface.”
What are your thoughts on this surface characteristic and of Neoss implants in general? What do you find unique about this system?
