ZERAMEX XT Ceramic Implant: 1 year follow up of 1st in the world placed

This case involved a simple placement of an implant in a site with adequate bone in an overall healthy patient. The case is significant in that it was the first case ever done worldwide using the ZERAMEX XT Ceramic Implant System. It shows a ZERAMEX XT 4.2 x 10mm implant placed in a healed extraction and grafted site. The implant placement was done 4 months post tooth extraction and grafting. The implant was restored using the VICARBO Carbon Fiber screw and zirconia abutment. At one year follow up, the implant shows no peri-implant inflammation. No movement or bone loss can be observed.

This case was done in Zurich Switzerland by Dr. Jens Tartsch. Dr. Tartsch practices in Zurich Switzerland and is a founding father of the European Society of Ceramic Implants. ESCI is a connection between industry leaders and clinical users of ceramic implants working together to create the designs, and technologies for proven future success.

I have a patient interested in these, so this is timely for me. Is screw retained available or only cemented? Thank you.

I am a sophisticated prospective patient and well-researched and interested in partnering with dental professionals as well as industry representitives who would like the opportunity to explore use of the Zeremax XT system as an intregal part of my full-mouth restorative fully digital, dental treatment plan. I will be exploring use of best practices in current and emerging medical, and dental technologies, tools and techniques i.e. PRP, PRF, BMP, osseo intergrative, horizontal, and vertical split-ridge bone augmentation, etc. to assure optimal outcome. I am located in the US, currently, Cleveland, Ohio. However willing and capable to travel nationwide, or virtually anywhere internationally to partner with the right individual(s) or team motivated to lead or participate in that mutually cooperative and beneficial to parties selected. If you are, or represent, a lab, software developer, manufacturer, medical supply company, maxillofacial surgeon, periodontist, facial aesthetician, prosthodontist, general dentist, instructor, teacher, or professor. And you have a serious interest in exploring the possibillity of participating in this unique clinical case opportunity, please email to express such interest to detail specialties or area of expertise for consideration. charles@aslan.us Respectfully, Charles Platten (602) 717-6583 Text or Voice

What is the advantage of these implants? Perhaps carbon fiber similar to the materials used in aerospace industry would also be successful?

This is my first hand experience. The main reason why few patient's in Europe are inclined towards zr implant is ,due to their belief in other alternative medicines, like kinesiology, balancing the energy, effects of metal ions on other parts of the body ( basically adverse effects) etc. The teachers of that science and their students, patient, strongly believe in their science with clinical evidence. They are against metal. Hence they are looking for ceramic implants. Next - companies know how to capitalise that. Practically Both are correct .

A very well executed case and lovely result. I Would like to see the 1yr radiograph(s) though. I'm not too au fait with the ceramic implant movement but if this truly is the 1st placed in the world and only 1 year ago, though this looks to be quite an excellent result, I'd like to see the longer term results as well as more cross sectional studies showing their use and success in different scenarios and populations before I meaningfully consider introducing them to my practice. Also, could anyone tell me what advantages these implants offer over the current titanium ones in use, apart maybe from in a patient with a titanium allergy? We know very well how bone responds to titanium (histologically and histomorphometrically) does it respond in a similar way to ceramic? I know answers to the above will be forthcoming from our colleagues in Switzerland in time- this is only the 1st and only 1 year old after all so congratulations on a fabulous initial result. I'll certainly be watching this space...

Hello Val, This is the first ZERAMEX XT with one year restorative follow up. ZERAMEX has been evolving the 2 piece design of metal free ceramic implants for 12 years. ZEEX XT is the most recent release into the US market. The precessesor is the ZERAMEX P6 - Same ceramic material, same VICARBO screw, same roughened surface treatment(acid etch and sand blasted). The P6 has over 5 years worldwide and 2+ years with US FDA approval. This case was presented as the first of the new XT design. The XT has the advantage of being tapered in design, internal connection, screw-retained with a reduced diameter Vicarbo Screw. Please check our website for additional case presentations, upcoming CE presentations and technical information.

It’s great to see the success of a new alternative that is available. Definitely something to look forward to adding in our clinical practice.

I am really excited with the post-op results of osseointegration, If it would be successful, this would be innovative! I hope to see research regarding the kind or ceramic, its modification and its physical properties (especially fracture resistance and tensile strength) to resist masticatory forces.
